Summary: Spider-Man is looking to stop any criminal activity but the baddies are on a break atm. I realized that this brief and extremely vague summary doesn’t explain much. I’m just looking for a brief chat, it doesn’t have to be action packed. Open to anyone who might want to exchange a few words (including bad guys, no judging). All are welcome
It was a brisk evening in The City That Never Sleeps, Peter sat on the edge of the Rockefeller Center looking down at the plaza. Signs of sun light could be seen fading in the horizon from the comfortable vantage point, slowly the night began to roll in. The famous skyline of New York City shimmered, the lights that adorned every single structure inside and out made the city come to life. He tugged the mask up to uncover his mouth and took a few sips of the ginger honey tea from a Greek style cup. He was sold on the benefits, good for the pain, muscles and stomachache or so the vendor claimed. Everything seemed quiet from up there, the beautiful clear night sky lit up but there were barely any visible stars. The city was full with a variety of superheroes, so there shouldn’t be any crime but this was New York. It was also home to crazy supervillains, mafia families and all sorts of criminals. Peter was expecting small time criminals to break the law, it was their favorite hobby. Peter could only hope that tonight wouldn’t be as chaotic as the previous nights.
Sometimes, Peter found himself thinking about other things but could never deny his liking for the crime fighting life. As much as he liked using the emergency channels to stay informed, at the moment he preferred the basics.
He tasted the tea again, it was warm and whether it was working to relieve his sore muscles or not he enjoyed every sip. ”Any time now,” he murmured, finished the tea and crushed the paper cup into a ball. A plane’s engine roared over his head just a few thousand feet in the air, while he adjusted the lower part of the mask back in place. He glanced over the nearby buildings, hoping he wouldn’t see anything out of the ordinary. He didn’t, he was glad but it was beginning to feel like a slow night.
He pushed himself up creatively, sticking the landing on the wall behind him. ”I’ll do another thorough sweep.” Determined, he pulled out his cracked smart phone from his utility belt, the screen lit up with old notifications but nothing exciting, so he put it away after trying out the police radio application. There was some communication between officers and their dispatcher concerning the usual public intoxication arrests or other minor disturbances. In a playful action he lobbed the webbed cup to an open trash can down in the street, almost missing it but the breeze had somehow guided it in.
Peter inspected the utility belt for cartridges, counted them and felt confident with the quantity for the night. His pair of web-shooters were still full, ”Good enough. I’ll probably have to make more web fluid when I get back home,” he said to himself before darting off the building and diving down the side of it. This part would never get old, he aimed at the sky and shot a web knowing it stuck onto a surface, it wouldn’t take but a second before he grabbed onto the thread. He swung high and low maintaining a decent speed with acrobatic maneuvers while keeping his eyes and ears open for anything that’d require his attention.
The Boroughs were probably active with some or if any criminal activity, he hoped he was wrong but it was probably nothing the authorities couldn’t handle. The night was just beginning and the city never disappointed.
Don’t jinx it.
There is always something happening, but tonight seems like a slow night.
No matter how much I want to catch bad guys, if nothing happens tonight then I can sleep better knowing that.
I like the sound of that. Any amount of sleep would be good enough.
Spider-Man flipped through the air with ease, it was the closest thing to flying, his eyes behind the white lenses scanned the streets below. Nothing yet, just random birds mostly of the pigeon variety flying up there with him. The usual atmosphere in the air, open bars and clubs around the city teeming with activity, restaurants full of patrons, cabs everywhere and a few other vehicles. Typical night in the city, people were out and about. Almost an hour had gone by, Peter had taken the time to swing all around lower Manhattan and its neighborhoods for any crime and found nothing. He then made his way back up on the west side of the island until he reached Upper Manhattan. Harlem was alive and also peaceful as far as he could tell, by now he had use a quarter of the cartridges loaded in the web shooters.
He returned to Rockefeller Center, but this time he perched on the highest point of the building. He was beginning to wonder if he should swing by the other boroughs, he was probably going to find some action somewhere in Brooklyn. Again, he pulled out his phone and unlocked it opening the police scanner radio app. There was some static, he surfed patiently through the channels provided for New York and all of the boroughs.
I can’t go home yet.
Am I missing something?
I mean, this is New York, right?
Where is everybody?
Is there something going on that I don’t know about?
Too many questions and no answers, boredom was beginning to settle in. For some reason it was easier to carry on a conversation with himself. Parker had decided to wait until midnight like that Cinderella fairytale before calling it a day. The thought would have amused him under any other circumstances but he was beginning to worry that things were so peaceful tonight. Peter felt guilt for wanting to come across criminal activity, but his experiences as Spider-Man made him a realist. Long gone were his teen days, nothing but well learnt lessons. He resumed scanning through the police radio app, patiently waiting for some action.
