She sat sprawled out on a garden lounger, face turned toward the mid-afternoon sun. Dressed in a short, chequered blouse - exposing much of her arms and midriff - and cut off denim shorts that let all of her legs below the upper thigh breathe, Anna Marie drank in the day’s warmth, occasionally sipping at the glass of ice tea she held in her left hand. Large sunglasses sat across the bridge of her nose, and she occasionally wafted free fingers across her face, batting at small, persistent bugs that thrived in the summer heat. Frustrating though they could be, they were nothing compared to the swarming mosquitos she was used to, those that plagued most counties south of Missouri.
It was the most relaxing afternoon she’d had in weeks, perhaps even months. The life of an X-Man was never quiet, and atop that, she was acclimatising to married life. As easy going as she was, even she needed some ‘Rogue’ time, and she could think of nothing better than whiling away an afternoon, sunbathing alone with her favourite beverage.
“S’bliss,” she murmured to herself, “Almost heaven.”
It was only minutes after she’d muttered those words that she heard footsteps behind her, rapidly approaching from the direction of the Jean Grey School of Higher Learning. “Nope. Nu’uh.” Closer and closer they came, until a shadow fell across her, the presence of another waiting for her attention. For as long as she could, she did her best to ignore them, until the silence became somewhat awkward.
Then, with a long sigh, she inclined her head toward the other. “Ah have no idea what you’re here for, but ah can guarantee you came to get the wrong person…unless you’re bringin’ me a top up. Three ice cubes, please and thank you.”
