Subject Attributes
Superhuman Abilities:
Asgardian Physiology: Born of Asgard, Amora possesses an enhanced physiology that renders her much stronger, faster, more durable and longer-lived than her mortal counterparts. While she is much more physically powerful than most regular humans, she is considered 'average' amongst others of her race.
Sorcery: The Enchantress' magical powers are among the most powerful of all Asgardians. Her potency and proficiency is second only to Karnilla of the Norn. Her powers derive from two main sources - the ability to manipulate ambient Asgardian energy, and her acquired knowledge of spells and enchantments of varying origins. Through her spell craft, she is capable of achieving a wide variety of effects, including, but not limited to: levitation, energy protection, enchantment, teleportation across realms, disguise, illusion, transmutation, paralysis, warding shields, life force absorption, time disruption, telepathy, astral projection and telekinesis. Of these, the most commonly used - and indeed the power she is famed for - happens to be her enchantment. Amora often places enchantments upon herself, infatuating those around her and overwhelming them with desire. Through this manner of spell casting, she creates thralls, those bent to her will, serving her against their better judgement.
Mystic Perception: Even when not actively casting spells, Amora can sense the presence of magical energies close by, often warning of her impending danger. She also has an 'empathy' for the emotions of others, able to deduce their feelings with varying degrees of accuracy, though strongest when focused on love, lust and desire..
All-Speak: Like all Asgardians, the Enchantress possesses the All-Speak, enabling her to communicate in any of the languages found across the Nine Realms.
Standard Abilities:
Arcane Lore: Thanks to her study under Karnilla, and then numerous other sorcerers found throughout the Nine Realms, Amora possesses a vast knowledge of arcane lore, able to cast spells and dispell hexes from varying origins.
Silver-Tongued: Amora is incredibly adept at twisting words, be it making people reveal their desires and wants, or talking herself out of predicaments should magic fail her.
Hard to Read: As one might expect, a woman excelling at manipulating others is incredibly capable of controlling her own emotions. Amora can be incredibly hard to read, keeping her emotions and thoughts well hidden from those about her.
Paraphernalia:
Enchantress Attire: When acting as 'The Enchantress, Amora wears typical Asgardian robes, though more revealing than most, emerald green in colour. She often dons a cloak of a similar colour, especially in colder climates.
Asgardian Trinkets: In order to empower her spells, Enchantress wears Asgardian trinkets, from bracelets to rings to necklaces, using their connection with her home realm to maintain the potency of her spells.
Subject Weaknesses:
Mortal: Despite her Asgardian physiology and being part of the ever occurring cycle of Ragnarok, Amora is 'mortal'. She is able to be killed, without the promise of return when the latest cycle ends.
Asgardian Empowerment: Amora derives much of her magic potency from Asgard. While she never truly 'loses' her power, spells are much weaker and easier to resist should she not be able to draw strength from her home realm, especially following a prolonged absence.
Bound and Gagged: Amora requires the use of her hands and mouth to cast spells, and thus binding her and silencing her diminishes the arcane power she has access to. However, previously cast spells - like her self-cast enchantments - would continue to function, even in such a situation.
Physical Combat: Though she is possessed of superhuman strength, speed and durability, Amora is not a combatant. She has little to no close-quarters training, relying on her magic to best her enemies. Should brute force be required, she tends toward the use of minions to exact her will. As such, she is easily overcome by those able to engage her directly.
Subject History
Like many Asgardians, Amora's early history is little more than tales and legends, her figure carved into the lore of Ragnaroks past. Always known for her incredible beauty, Amora has gone by the names Freyja, Iduna, Idun, Mardoll and of course, the Enchantress. In many of the stories surrounding the golden-haired spell weaver, she is an object of desire, sought by Frost Giants for marriage, or held in such awe even Yggdrasill, the world tree, bore her apples of gold. Often offered as a bargaining chip against her will, she was almost always saved by the intervention of Thor or Loki - the former killing unwanted husbands, the second tricking potential suitors.
The most recent era saw Amora born somewhere in Asgard, her parentage unknown. While still a young woman, she fled to the lands of the Norn, and there took apprenticeship under the sorceress Karnilla. There, she studied the art of Asgardian magic, until she found herself banished by her mentor for lacking discipline. However, enthralled by the arcane power she had uncovered, The Enchantress earned her name by seducing other magi and wizards that littered the Asgardian dimension, learning all she could from those that became infatuated with her.
With her blossoming power, so too blossomed ambition. Famed names of heroes were spoken about Asgard: the might of Thor, the cunning of Loki, the skill of Sif, the wrath of Odin. Amora believed herself worthy of such note, and she planned conquest – hoping to establish a name and legend for herself. She enlisted the aid of Brunnhilde, a Valkyrie, posing as a benevolent figure. However, the shepherd of death quickly became aware of Amora’s immoral intentions, and ended their allegiance. As punishment for her abandonment, The Enchantress trapped the Valkyrie within a mystic crystal – where the warrior spent decades before finally being freed.
Her dreams of power, recognition and importance remained undaunted, and she went on to seduce Skurge, the Asgardian executioner. Over the years, he aided her in numerous schemes, infatuated with The Enchantress – desperate to earn her affections. However, while he would do anything for the mage, she had little interest in him, wishing only to use him as her thrall. However, even with his aid, her plots were often foiled.
Eventually, her actions led her to encounter Thor, and Amora found herself smitten. When the Asgardian thunder god was given the form of Donald Blake, she attempted to woo him, while demanding Skurge kill Foster, the mortal woman whom Thor loved. Thor was able to overcome both Enchantress and Executioner, though it set the pair at long-standing odds, and over the years Amora often tried to earn Thor’s affection – or manipulate him to her ends – while trying to dispose of Jane Foster.
Having been drawn away from Asgard by Thor, Amora began taking greater interest in Midgard. Indeed, she formed numerous alliances with those on Earth, hoping to advance her ends. She worked alongside Loki, Baron Zemo, The Mandarin and Arkon in pursuit of her ultimate goal – power – and used her allies to rain vengeance upon her enemies. Alongside the Mandarin, she attempted to conquer Asia, an army of stone trolls at her back. Working with Doctor Doom, she attempted to disrupt the wedding of Reed Richards and Susan Storm. She even went as far as to capture the Hulk, enthralling the Green Giant and turning him loose in Asgard in hopes of overthrowing Odin. Most, if not all of these schemes were failures, though she remained resolute in her efforts.
Seeking evermore power, Amora was drawn to an interdimensional rift. Were she able to take control of it, she would possess mystic strength to rival that of Odin. Unfortunately, the rift had formed in a New York City bar, at which a singing contest was being held. Entering, knowing that her beauty and lovely voice would win her the contest – and in her eyes, the rift – she was beaten by the late arrival of Dazzler. Enraged that she had lost to a mortal, she attacked Blaire, only to find many other heroes were in the audience. Amora was forced to use so much arcane power in her escape, the rift was destabilised and lost, useless to all.
During the ‘Secret Wars’, The Enchantress was one of the many beings captured by the Beyonder and forced to battle heroes on the patchwork ‘Battleworld.’ She initially encountered She-Hulk, and was easily overpowered. Taken captive, wounds sustained from the skirmish against the Hulk were healed by Reed Richards, and Thor asked for her aid. Amora refused – though on his apparent death, regretted her decision, later feeling as though it was her one chance to be with the man she’d adored for so long. As was The Enchantress’ way, she flitted between aiding heroes and villains, always furthering her own ends. Her time on Battleworld was ended after escaping an assault from The Lizard – who interrupted her in draining Volcana’s life force, empowering herself in order to teleport away from the planet, and back to her home in Asgard. Though she was unable to finish the transference, she found herself able to escape.
For her crimes over the years, she earned Odin’s wrath, and she was exiled from Asgard. However, she and Executioner both came to Asgard’s aid when it went to war with Muspelheim and Sutur’s legions. Their short-lived heroism earned them the right to return to their ancestral home, and Amora formed a relationship with Heimdall, guardian of the bifrost. She also punished her younger sister, Lorelei, for refusing to aid their kin, enchanting her to fall in love with Loki. Her benevolence, though, was short lived. Her affair with Heimdall quickly dissolved, and she soon returned to serving her own ends.
However, The Enchantress was still capable of surprising others. After displaying decades of contempt for the Executioner, Amora truly grieved when he died, nobly sacrificing himself in Hel, aiding Thor in realm of the dead. Despite utilising Skurge as a pawn, she had grown incredibly attached to him, and from that point on, often conjured his armour and weapons on the mortals she enthralled in hopes of making them into suitable replacements. Her attempts at replacing him led her to Wonder Man, who she wished to serve at her side. He was able to resist her charms though.
During the invasion of Onslaught, Amora was captured by Frost Giants. Able to free herself with the use of her magic, her return to Earth led her to discover Thor missing – as too were Asgardians. Turned to mortals by Odin’s magic, Amora was able to help them regain the former glory by defeating the machinations of Set. This drew Thor and Amora close once more, and they rekindled the brief relationships they’d shared between decades of battle.
Their union was again brief, as Amora was killed by Loki’s forces during Ragnarok.
Death could not hold her, however. Following Ragnarok, many Asgardian gods were trapped in human form; Amora’s reborn essence among them. Thor set about awakening and freeing those he deemed trustworthy – assets to the restored Asgard (located in central Oklahoma.) The Enchantress, despite their affairs and brief flashes of heroism, was deemed unworthy, and Thor made no effort to seek her out. Loki, however, managed to manipulate Thor into waking all Asgardians; even though the trickster inhabited the body of a mortal woman. Amora was brought forth from her slumber, but made no attempt to reconcile with Thor, instead traveling to a far flung corner of the Earth.
There, she brooded, and turned her attention to Yggdrasil, the tree of the world. She set herself against it, hoping that in doing so, she could resurrect Skurge and end the loneliness she felt in his absence, realising how much he had meant to her. She was ultimately thwarted, Balder convincing her that her actions could not only destroy the Nine Realms, but that she would dishonour the Executioner’s death by dragging him from the halls of Valhalla.
When Asgard was destroyed by Norman Osborne, many of Earth’s heroes were flung among the Nine Realms. Thor found himself confronted by Amora in Vanaheim, seeking vengeance. However, it was revealed that Hela had combined the realms within her own, and when The Goddess of Death appeared to attack Thor, Amora surprised the Thunderer by standing at his side, though they were defeated. She continued to aid him, however, returning Mjolnir to him when it was lost, healing his wounds and standing against Hela in the battle for the Twilight Sword.
Following Thor’s death during the Serpent’s Invasion, Donald Blake found himself alone. With a lifetime of false memories, and robbed of Odinson’s power, he faced an identity crisis. He sought out Amora and made a deal with her, hoping to become a God once more. She agreed, pampering him and feeding him, until she offered him a golden apple. Upon eating it, Amora cut off his head. Kept alive by her magics, Blake’s head watched on as his blood formed the monstrosity known as Keep, who The Enchantress took as her love in place of Skurge. Travelling to Hel, Amora used her new minion to free Hela in return for passage to Asgardia. There, she confronted a reborn Thor with Blake’s head – but in the ensuing combat, Keep and Amora were defeated, and banished for good.
Sent to Norway, Amora was separated from Keep and weakened – Thor and Odin imposing the Odin-force upon her, causing her to lose access to her magical abilities. It was Lady Deathstrike and Typhoid Mary who returned them to her, breaking the bonds that shackled her magic, and she joined their short-lived Sisterhood.
Her acts with the team of female mutates drew the eye of Magneto, who enrolled her in battling the Red Onslaught and his sentinels in Genosha. Amora was able to charm Onslaught, but was interrupted when the Scarlet Witch and Doctor Doom warped reality, defeating the Red Skull and his allies, but inverting the moral Axis of all those on the island. Fighting against now evil X-Men, Amora was able to prevent them detonating a gene bomb that would have ended all non-mutant life on earth. She was restored to her more self-serving ways when Wanda and Doom recast their inversion spell – re-righting reality’s moral compass.
Most recently, Amora found herself drawn into a sinister cabal known as the Dark Council – led by the Dark Elf Malekith the Accursed – with a view to waging war upon the other realms.
Subject Interview
Four stone obelisks jutted from the snow, great rocks reaching toward a sullen, grey sky. They stood as guards might, eternally vigilant, at attention, before a cave, its edges - carved into the mountainside – only just visible about a sheet of ice that tried its utmost to hide it from view. At her back, a blizzard raged; the north winds howling as they lashed clothing and stung skin. But standing among the natural-wrought pillars, there was an eerie calm, and the anger of the Norse weather could have been a world away, little more than a distant memory.
Stepping toward one of the structures, she rested pale fingertips on its uneven surface, trailing them across its gravelled skin. Though centuries had weathered the markings, she found them soon enough – ancient runes of power, carved into the rock. She smirked a little, her full lips raising at their corners. “And thou thought thou couldst hide it…” she breathed, her voice little more than a whisper, words spoken in her native Asgardian tongue.
Overhead passed a shadow, and in a flurry of black feathers, a flapping of dark wings, a single raven came to perch on the carved obelisk opposite the one she stood at. It cawed loudly, staring at her with blank eyes, before cawing again. It felt like a warning, a threat, a demand. ‘You do not belong here. Go back.’ Unperturbed, Amora locked her gaze with that of the bird, irises a brilliant green. “Eyes of the All-Father,” she murmured, “Still keeping watch after all this time.” As if understanding the Asgardian sorceress, the raven shrieked, and made to take to the air.
It barely managed a single wing beat before it dropped, encircled in a bright, emerald energy. It struggled and writhed, trying to break the bonds that held it, but it had not the strength to fight against the arcane might of the Enchantress. Stepping through the snow drift toward the captive avian, movements careful and measured, not hurried and urgent, Amora stooped, crouching over it. Reaching down, she lifted the bird in both hands, while its feet kicked desperately, as if trying to claw at her arms in an attempt to earn its freedom.
It failed in its attempts once again.
Raising it to eye level, she again locked her gaze with its.
“Stop thy struggling, little bird,” her voice had an almost musical quality to it, melodic and sweet, and the creature in her grip instantly calmed. “Thou needs not worry. No longer does thou serve the One-Eyed King. No longer must thy spy for Odin. Instead, thou will be eyes of mine.”
Extending her influence over such a creature was child’s play – it had such little will with which to contend her magics. The raven’s eyes, no longer black, flashed green, and the shackle that held it fell away.
So too did Amora’s hands, allowing the bird to take flight. It circled her twice, before finally coming to rest upon her shoulder, nudging its sharp beak adoringly against her cheek. Looking back over her shoulder, The Enchantress looked to those that accompanied her. When she spoke, she no longer did so in Asgardian, but in perfect, unbroken English. “It’s here,” she said simply, gesturing to the cave entrance. “Fafnir’s horde.”
