Full Name: Shanna O'Hara-Plunder
Codename: Shanna The She-Devil
Age: 30
Gender: Female
Archetype: Super-Hero
Aliases: Queen of the Savage Lands
Marital Status: Married
Affiliation: The Savage Land
Subject Attributes
Superhuman Abilities:
Elongated Lifespan: Following Shanna's death, a tribe within the Savage Land performed a ritual to return their former Queen to life, utilising the blood of an ancient creature to restore her vigour. This left Shanna connected to the very life force of the Savage Land itself, halting her ageing process entirely. So long as the Savage Land lives, so too will Shanna. Since her ressurection, the She-Devil instinctively knows the languages and history of the Savage Land and its many peoples.
Superhuman Strength: Shanna is possessed of incredible physical strength, easily rivalling that of ten human men.
Superhuman Durability: The She-Devil's strength has also rendered her incredibly durable. She has survived numerous attacks from the hostile creatures of the Savage Lands, and seems to recover from injuries at an accelerated rate.
Superhuman Speed: Shanna is capable of moving at an incredible pace, rivalling the speed of modern cars, even over rough and uneven terrain. It has been suggested, when sprinting, she can reach speeds in excess of 50 mph.
Standard Abilities:
Veterinary Scientist:Shanna has a degree in Veterinary Sciences. She is incredibly knowledgable about a wide variety of animals, and has a unique specialist field: the strange creatures found within the Savage Land. She is an expert in their care and has an uncanny understanding of their behaviours and communication.
Animal Handling: No doubt linked to her natural love of animals and her life lived in the wilds, Shanna is quick to earn the trust of wild beasts. She has shown herself able to become one of and hunt alongside packs of raptors, wild cats and wolves - all of whom treat her as one of their own.
Hunter and Tracker: The She-Devil's hunting and tracking skills are finely tuned and honed to perfection, outclassing most regular mortals - even at their peak. She is capable of tracking lone creatures for miles through the wild and unpredictable Savage Lands - a skill she can apply to near any surrounding she finds herself in.
Skilled Combatant: Shanna has spent her life surviving in the wild and has thus become a highly-skilled combatant. Though not a student of any particular martial philosophy, she fights with a controlled savagery that catches many off-guard, totally unpredictable due to its self-taught nature. She is an expert in the use of the spear, knife and javelin.
Adaptable: Shanna is highly adaptable - much more so than many others from the Savage Land. Having started her life living in Africa and in a modern society, she is capable of living in the wilds of the Savage Land and among more 'civilized' regions of the world.
Linguist: The She-Devil can speak the many tongues of the Savage Lands, but also English and Afrikaans.
Paraphernalia:
Primitive Arsenal: Shanna has access to a number of primitive but well-crafted weapons. While a long hunting spear is her favoured weapon, she also tends to carry a bone knife and sling with her at all times. Lightweight javellins are also often utilised.
Subject Weaknesses:
Mortality: Despite her empowerment by the Savage Lands, Shanna can be classed as a mortal - were her link to her home severed, she would bare the same mortality as any other human being, and she is notably lacking in the immense durability that many super-heroes possess.
Savage Traits: While Shanna is capable of adapting to her surroundings remarkably quickly, life living in the Savage Lands has left her 'behind the times'. Much modern technoloy has passed her by almost entirely, and she has a tendancy to misunderstand or misuse slang. Decorum can also be a metric in which Shanna falls short - she maintains a base politeness, but can forget aspects of etiquette having dealt with wild animals and savage tribes for such a substantial part of her life.
Empowered: Shanna's strength and resillience are tied to the Savage Land. While it survives, her powers remain intact. However, should the Savage Land suffer loss or fall, she could find herself physically weaker or entirely depowered.
Subject History
Shanna O'Hara was born to famed diamond miner Gerald O'Hara and his wife Patricia. Born in Africa, she spent much of her childhood growing up in the jungles of Zaire, at home in the wilderness and its creatures. At the age of six, her father went to kill a rogue leopard that had previously belonged to her mother, Patricia O'Hara. While hunting for the leopard, Shanna's father accidentally killed Patricia, and the traumatic incident led to Shanna detesting firearms, adopting a lifelong stance against them. After the incident, Shanna moved to the United States to live with relatives, the relationship between her and her father strained. There, she attended university, training as a veterinarian. Shanna also took up competitive swimming, track and field - competing at a near-Olympic level.
After achieving her degree, Shanna was offered a placement as a zoologist at Central Park Municipal Zoo in New York City. She accepted, and raised a number of wild animals, but her favoured was Julani - a leopard very similar to the one her mother had once cared for. Their bond was near unbreakable, but not all understood the wild cat's nature. Julani was shot and killed by one of the zoo's guards who mistook her protecting her cubs as an act of aggression. The zoo's director, seeing Shanna's heartbreak, almost immediately tasked her with taking Julani's cubs, Ina and Biri, to the the Dahomey Reserve in Africa. Agreeing, Shanna returned to her former home, where she chose to remain.
Shanna took it upon herself to watch over the Dahomey Reserve - and wearing Julani's pelt in honour of her fallen friend, she began living in the wilds, roaming the vast reserve's jungles as the She-Devil.
It was during this period that her father, Gerald, was taken captive by 'the Mandrill.' Leaving her new home to hunt for her kidnapped relative, she found herself taken captive herself. Taken to the Savage Land by the wizard Malgato, she was finally aided in her escape by Lord Kevin Plunder - known amongst the deizens of the hidden Antarctic jungle as Ka-Zar. Thanking him, but unable to remain in the Savage Land for long, Shanna quickly returned to Africa to renew her search for her father. Unfortunately, she learned that he was killed by the Mandrill. Seeking revenge, she travelled to North America to aid Daredevil and Black Widow in stopping the Mandrill and Nekra's plan to overthrow the American government.
This new loss saw Shanna spend a period of time living in San Francisco and travelling to the Savage Land, finding solace with Ka-Zar. She was eventually drawn back to Africa however, only to find Ina and Biri had been slain by a religious cult leader named Raga-Shah. After a short grieving period in North America, Shanna began hunting the sorcerous Raga, and eventually killed him by feeding him to a giant python named Ananta.
Returning to the Savage Land once again, Shanna and Ka-Zar became lovers, though their relationship was a tempestuous one. Indeed, Shanna had many other romances during this time - she was married to Mele of the Botor, propositioned by Belasco and very nearly entered into a relationship wth Peter Parker. However, she constantly found herself returning to Ka-Zar, and they eventually married. It was during a period of time following their union that the pair (who, at the time, were prisoners of the Nuwali) found out that Shanna was pregnant. Following their escape, she had a son named Matthew, who spent a great deal of time in the care of his nanny, Zhira of the Savage Lands.
Unfortunately, Matthew was very nearly killed during an attack on the Savage Lands by 'Gregor' - the man who trained Kraven the Hunter. Shanna blamed her husband for the assault (for Ka-Zar had brought modern technologies into the wilds of the Savage Lands - technology that was used to co-ordinate the attack). However, despite their frostiness, Shanna aided her partner in confronting Parnival Plunder, who had been hoping to steal hidden terraformers that sustain the Savage Lands. In defeating him, Shanna and Ka-Zar saved their home, and Shanna was declared Queen by the tribes of the hidden Antarctic jungles.
Shortly afterwards, Shanna found herself displaying a new set of powers - the terraformers having transferred their power to her. A living embodiment of nature, Shanna was the being keeping the Savage Land alive. Approached by the High Evolutionary, he offered to take Shanna's new gifts from her. After initially refusing, Shanna eventually relented, realising that the power she now controlled was too great for her, and that it was forcing her to be someone that she wasn't.
With the energy of the terraformers gone, Shanna sunk into a deep depression, as it felt like a part of her had died. Taking Matthew, she seperated from Ka-Zar and went to wander the wilds - hoping to reconnect with the more humane part of herself. In doing so, she learned the Savage Land had started to suffer and change, and that many of the tribes blamed her and Ka-Zar for it, accusing them of angering the Gods. Returning to her husband, the two suffered a number of attacks by angered Savage Land natives, and though they lived through them, they were forced to temporarily leave their home, and their beloved wild cat Zabu, behind.
The Plunder family did, however, eventually return to the Savage Lands, which seemed to have stabilised and recovered in their absence. They aided a number of heroes from the wider world during this time, including Captain America, Hercules and stood with the Avengers during the Skrull Invasion of Earth.
When the savage hulk, Skaar, came to live in the Savage Lands, Shanna was one of the first to greet him. Unfortunately, Skaar's arrival accidentally triggered the release of the dormant 'Designer', an ancient being of Pangea. Taking Shanna as its host, the Designer drove Shanna to commit numerous heinous acts, including the murder of tribal leaders and threatening the wider world. Captain America intervened, and with the help of Skaar and Ka-Zar, was able to stop the Designer (who had nearly killed its host), and its chosen weapon, Umbu. Realising Shanna couldn't contain its essence any longer, the Designer left the She-Devil, and over time, she was able to recover.
Most recently, Shanna acted as a guide for SHIELD agents, aiding them through the Savage Lands following their crash landing there. Unfortunately, they were killed by numerous tribesmen from a mysterious island, an island on which Wolverine also found himself lost. Working alongside the mutant, Shanna agreed to aid him in investigating the cause of his and the SHIELD team's crash landings, which in turn led them to uncover a strange machine.
Heavily guarded, Shanna was slain by native resistance desperate to protect it. Luckily, Amadeus Cho was also investigating the area, and recognising the She-Devil, he convinced local tribes that she was a Goddess. Using the life blood of a Man-Thing native to the Savage Land, the tribe were able to resurrect Shanna. This left her connected to the very life force of the Savage Land, giving her a strange and supernatural power. Cho told Shanna what the natives had explained to him - that the machine powering the damping field was also powering a prison, one holding an ancient and hostile alien presence. Realizing that Wolverine would be releasing this creature were he to destroy it, Shanna raced to stop him. She arrived in time, Cho right behind her, and the pair were able to stop Logan.
Subject Interview
She crouched among the foliage, eyes narrowed against the glare of the setting sun. From her position, perched upon a thick tree branch at the jungle's edge, she had a near unimpeded view of the landscape beyod – rolling plains that stretched out to the horizon. There, where land met sky, the warmth of the day blurred their usual division, and as the sun continued its hazy descent, it appeared as if it was sinking into the earth itself. It was beautiful to behold, a sight to which no picture or recording could give justice – but Shanna was too focused elsewhere to spend long revelling in nature's splendour. There would be time to observe the sunsets of her African homeland once her work was done.
Somewhere, out there, in that open expanse, her prey walked free, dragging captive creatures from the Savage Land behind them.
Shanna had always hated poachers; those that killed, hunted or stole animals to sell on illegal markets or maim for sport and profit. She had spent the early part of her life in direct conflict with such individuals, protecting the wildlife of the Dahomey Reserve from those seeking to gain from the pain of wild beasts. But for so long, living in the Savage Lands, such issues had seemed a world away: few knew the Antarctic preserve existed, and fewer still dared venture there. Her efforts had been directed toward protecting her new home, on managing the many tribes of Pangea and supporting the life that flourished there.
Until her past caught up with her.
But a week before, the entire Savage Land had been cast into turmoil, the jungle crying out as animals were torn from packs and mothers from cubs. Invading hunters, originiating from the lands outside Shanna's realm had come, and they had taken whatever they pleased. An entire eco-system had been left reeling, and though she, Ka-Zar and Zabu had done their utmost to react, the outsiders' appearance had been unexpected, and it had caught the Land's protectors totally off guard. The hunters had fled the Antarctic almost as suddenly as they had arrived, on boats headed for Africa, leaving chaos in their wake.
But in that chaos, painful memories had focused Shanna and steeled her resolve. Leaving Ka-Zar to preside over the Savage Land, she had given chase, a tireless huntress stalking her prey over land and sea. They had not been easy to track, but the She-Devil refused to relent. With each passing day, she felt as though she were closer to her target – and looking out over Africa's plains, she knew they were close, a gut instinct that she trusted unflinchingly.
As the light began to dim, twilight drawing nearer, she leapt from her vantage point, landing neatly on the short, white grass below. Night was coming, and at night, the poachers would need to rest or slow their pace – it would give the She-Devil all the time she needed to gain on them.
