Subject Facts
Full Name: Elsa Bloodstone
Codename: Bloodstone
Age: Late twenties
Gender: Female
Archetype: Vigilante
Aliases: Elsa
Marital Status: Single
Affiliation: Next Wave (previously), A-Force (previously), Monster Hunters (previously)
Subject Attributes
Superhuman Abilities:
Bloodgem Infusion: Much of Elsa's power comes from her Bloodgem Choker, the power of the ruby gifting her near-immortality, enhanced strength and resilience, and an immunity to the bites of the undead. However, even without her choker, Bloodstone retains a small portion of these powers, a genetic inheritance from her father. Though significantly weakened without her gem, she still possesses limited physical enhancements, making her stronger, faster and more durable than any human should be, and her blood remains poisonous to the undead.
Standard Abilities:
Walking Arsenal: Elsa Bloodstone has long studied the art of combat and thus seems capable of fighting with near any weapon (makeshift or otherwise) that she comes into contact with, from handguns to shovels.
Parapsychologist and Monster Hunter: Bloodstone has hunted beasts and monsters for years, and has become quite knowledgable in all things 'weird.' She has a good understanding of how to kill most of the dark creatures she encounters, and if she doesn't, she knows where to look to find out - or she shoots it a lot until it doesn't move. Her expertise in this field is put to good use, as she runs an online blog and beastiary.
Occultism: Though not a 'spellcaster' of sorts, Elsa is well-versed in the occult, knowledgable on a great deal of arcane lore.
Paraphernalia:
Bloodgem Choker: Elsa was given the a fragment of the 'Bloodstone' at birth, the stone fastened into a choker, which she rarely, if ever, takes off. While in contact with the gem, Elsa is possessed of super-human strength, durability and speed; a regenerative healing factor and an immunity to the bites of undead creatures and possession.
Varied Weaponry: Bloodstone carries a range of weaponry - both ranged and melee, some of which is worn on her person, though most is found stored in a guitar case.
Bloodstone Appendage: Elsa is possessed of a 'fancy bloodstone hand', although it is indistinguishable from a real hand. No-one quite knows how she got it, but she tells most that 'her father ripped off her last one.'
Subject Weaknesses:
Mortal: Despite the impressive power gifted by the Bloodgem, Elsa is mortal, and though she is incredibly resillient, she can still suffer damage enough to kill her outright.
Reliance on the Bloodgem: Much of Elsa's power comes from her Bloodgem choker. While some of her strength lingers without it, she is rendered much weaker, and much more 'mortal' than she might otherwise be.
Loner: Elsa is something of a loner. She lacks social graces, can be brash, rude and is often seen as argumentative. While she is frequently invited to join 'teams' of heroes (a fact that still baffles her), she always finds herself seperating from the collective eventually, naturally drawn to being alone once their shared goals are met.
Reckless: Not much scares Elsa, and she runs headfirst into danger without much in the way of forward planning. While this seems to work in her favour, there are times she finds herself in more trouble than can easily be handled.
Subject History
Much of Elsa Bloodstone's early history is shrouded in mystery. Indeed, there are times that even she seems to contradict herself when retelling her origins. However, some facts are undisputed, no matter the version of events the foul-mouthed monster hunter might offer. Firstly, she is the daughter of the ancient Ulysses Bloodstone – the barer of the blood gem – and a woman named Elise. Second is that her father, though he knew of her existance, was not over-present during Elsa's formative years, having left Elise when else was still a baby, showing up only infrequently after that. Instead, he trusted 'Adam' (Frankenstein's Monster) to watch over his spawn, and give her a fragment of the blood gem when she was old enough to use and understand its power. Those memories she does have of Ulysses aren't positive – she reports he was harsh, bordering on abusive.
Elsa and her mother travelled Europe throughout her younger years, thought hey always seemed to return to England, where they eventually settled so that Elsa could be schooled. However, as she grew into a teenager, Elsa began to have increasingly frequent dreams of monsters. It was soon after these dreams began that word reached Elise of Ulysses' death, and she and Elsa flew to his home in Boston to settle his estate.
There, finding a secret chamber following a tour from Ulysses' butler (Charles Barnabas), Elsa stumbled across two things: Frankenstein's Monster and a pulsating lamp. Adam explained Elsa's origins and offered her the bloodgem – which he had set into a choker. Upon contact with Bloodstone, it attached itself to her, and she found herself drawn to the glowing lamp. Reaching out and touching it, Elsa found herself transported to Bosnia, caught up in a raging conflict between two ancient vampires: Dracula and Nosferatu. Dracula, instantly recognising the glowing gem, made to attack the monster hunter's daughter, but she was saved by the blood gem.
Nosferatu subdued Dracula and escaped with the Lord of Darkness in tow – Adam in turn found Elsa, returned her to Boston and began aiding Bloodstone in becoming a monster hunter. He helped train her, and fashioned her a costume based upon her father's. Her first mission was to free Dracula from Nosferatu and his kin – a task she accomplished with help from The Living Mumy.
From that point on, Elsa took up residence in Bloodstone Manor, with her mother and Adam. She also befriended Charles Barnabus – who was revealed to be a pureblood vampire. Pursuing a monster-hunting occupation, she began an online blog to create an electronic encyclopedic reference guide for the numerous monsters and alien beasts in the world. It was her work on her blog that caused her to serve briefly with Nextwave – though the events of her time with the team are muddled, and Elsa struggles remembering them.
Following her exploits with Nextwave, Elsa registered with the US government, joining the 50-State Initiative during the events of the SRA, and returned to her monster hunting ways. She hunted down the Children of Goram in Prague, where she was unexpectedly impregnated by one of the monsters. The Bloodgem killed the offspring in her womb, and she later puked the monstrosity up. She killed the Children of Goram, and vowed to be the last of the Bloodstone line – there would be no need for another should she complete her goal: to destroy all monsters upon Earth before her death.
Returning to England for a short while, Elsa was asked to become a staff member at the Braddock Academy – a request to which Elsa agreed. While teaching there, Elsa worked alongside the Defenders, and also encountered Wolverine while hunting 'The Dreaming Maiden'. She learned of a group named 'The Covenant' – a secret order of which her father had once been a member. Their goals remain unknown, though they have shown a confrontational attitude toward Elsa.
In the wake of World War Hate, Elsa joined a 'reformed' Doctor Doom and Valeria Richard's Avengers. During the brief stint with the team, Elsa battled the Scarlet Witch, whose persona had been inverted, making her a vengful being who wished to destroy both Doom and Latveria for standing againt her. The Avengers fought the Scarlet Witch and saved villagers trapped in the crossfire, and having condensed a portion of Wanda's essence into a device invented by Valeria, their task was done, and reality was able to be reset.
Since then, Elsa has returned to her monster hunting ways, and has hunted hordes of evil creatures, working alongside A-Force, Deadpool and Kei Kawade.
Subject Interview
The two beat cops regarded her with upturned noses as she gingerly sniffed at her leather trench coat. After two quick huffs, the colour drained from her cheeks, her tongue lolled out the left side of her mouth, and she made an abject 'Blech' noise.
“Sorry about the stench...that would indeed be me.”
Both officers visibly reeled a little, taking a step back from the red-head they shone their torches on, a woman caught at the edge of a graveyard with a shovel and a shotgun.
“I didn't get chance to shower yet and stamping on heads can be a rather messy business.”
If they weren't already suspicious, New York's finest most certainly were following the brief explanation as to why a fell reek clung to her clothing.
'We heard gunshots...' one began, while the other finished, 'Wouldn't know anything about that would you?' He quickly inclined his torch beam downward, toward her hip, where one hand still clutched the pump-action shotgun. Elsa Bloodstone glanced in that direction, before raising an eyebrow and fixing the policeman with a rather incredulous stare.
“What do you bloody think? It isn't for show.”
Almost instantly, both of the officers dropped their hands, reaching for their waistbands and the handguns holstered there. The monster hunter waved her freehand non-chalantly, as if imitating the royal wave.
“Don't. It's not something you need to arrest me for. I was only shooting things that were already dead...”
Her attempted comforting didn't have the desired effect, and in moments, she had two pistols levelled at her. If it bothered her, Bloodstone most certainly didn't show it. Instead, her shoulders dropped a little, her head fell to one side and she gasped with exhasperation, eyes rolling.
'Drop your weapon!'
“Seriously, chaps, this is getting a little out of hand. I'm sure you've heard of 'zombies', I was just making sure they -”
'Drop your weapon!'
She sighed, and let her shotgun fall to the floor. Lamely, she raised both hands, waggling her fingers to show they were empty.
“Happy now?”
Carefully, one of the NYPD approached, readying handcuffs.
“There's really no need for those. We could clear this up easily enough. Take me to the Avengers. They'll explain everything...probably.”
As the approaching man reached Elsa's side, he leaned up and clasped one of the cuffs about her wrist. Inclining her head, she frowned at him.
“Or not...”
Taking hold of the metallic restraint, the officer moved to reach for her other hand, stretching across her back, when a loud, gurgling groan came from behind the trio.
Freezing, Elsa's captor looked back into the darkness.
“@£$$* ££$@ S&^@! ####!”
A stream of expletives tumbled from the red-head's mouth, and she turned side on, knowing exactly what approached. Through the gloom stumbled four shapes, rotting carcasses that were soon highlighted by the other policeman's torch. Little more than bone and decayed muscle, the undead shambled forth, snapping their jaws at the three living individuals.
The man attempting to cuff the Bloodstone stumbled away from her, falling flat on his rear, forgetting all about his restraints.
“See,” muttered Elsa, somewhat indignantly. Looking between the two humans quickly, she held out her hands. “Would you mind lending me those handguns of yours?” She nodded at her dropped shotgun. “I'm running a little low.”
